A day in my studio
Welcome to my studio, where creativity flows as freely as the paint on my canvas. My studio is a sanctuary, a space where the outside world fades away and I can immerse myself in the process of creating . Today, I invite you to join me on this journey, exploring the rhythm, routines, and inspirations that shape my art.
Setting the tone
Before I head to the studio I make sure I meditated or made a walk and I never arrive with an empty stomach. This helps to ground myself, and prepares me for a creative exploration.
Back in the studio, I start by setting up my workspace. I arrange my mixing jars, paints and tools, ensuring everything is within easy reach. With a cup of tea in hand, I take a few moments to sit quietly, reflecting on the colors I want to use.
Engaging with materials
My practice centers on material thinking, prioritizing intuitive exploration over verbal reasoning. I start by selecting a canvas and laying out a palette of colors that resonate with me in that moment. Mixing the paints can become meditative, wich is great before the process of creating starts.
Letting the materials guide me, I pour a good amount of paint on the canvas to establish a foundation. Embracing the unpredictability of the process, I allow the paint to flow and blend organically. Palette knives, and even my hands become extensions of my creative vision, each contributing to the evolving composition.
"One should always stop painting before it feels finished."
When I have a feeling it’s coming together, and it has a certain balance, I step back from the canvas to reflect on the work so far. This pause is crucial, allowing me to see the piece with fresh eyes and assess its progress. Often I feel like changing things, but I really take the time to consider. One should always stop painting before it feels finished.
Reflection
When it’s time I tidy the studio, readying the space for another day of creation. This ritual of closure helps transition from an immersive practice to everyday life. I often spend weeks, even months reviewing my work, contemplating if it can join the series I’m working on.
Creating art is not just about the final artwork; it’s about the journey and the process. Each day in the studio is a dance between the art and the natural world that inspires me.
